今日は久しぶりに、ヨーロッパゾーンの植物をご紹介いたします。

コルチカム　'ザ　ジャイアント'　Autumn crocus

これは、葉っぱがない状態の球根から花を咲かせるため、そう呼ばれているようです。

和名「イヌサフラン」とも呼ばれます。

コルチカムには、球根や種に「コルヒチン」という使い方次第で薬になる物質が含まれます。ですが、これを直接食べると、知覚がマヒしたり、呼吸困難に陥る危険な毒となります。

見た目はとても美しく、有毒とはとても思えませんね。
